Seasonal Load and Speed Restrictions
Per Marquette County Road Commission:

Seasonal weight restrictions will be lifted on all roads under under the jurisdiction of the Marquette County Road Commission beginning 7:00 a.m., Tuesday May 16, 2017. 

Until Tuesday, May 30, 2017, only normal legal loads will be allowed.  After this date overloads will be allowed by permits only.

Seasonal Maintenance Worker Position

Chocolay Township Department of Public Works is accepting applications for a temporary maintenance summer worker. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to, mowing grass, chipping brush, painting, and general cleaning.  The candidate must be a diligent worker with the ability to complete tasks with attention to detail, and little or no supervision. 

Minimum requirements for this position are possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, 18 years or older, and possession of a valid driver's license.  Rate of pay is $10.50 per hour.

Applications can be obtained here or at the Township Office at 5010 US 41 South.  Deadline for application is May 22, 2017 at 5:00 pm.

Wood Chips Available
Wood chips are now available at the Township Office free of charge.  They are available on a first come, first serve basis - haul your own.

Gentz's Compost Site
Gentz's compost site, located at 264 Little Lake Road, is now open for the season.  As a convenience to the residents of Chocolay Township, they provide a site at NO COST for disposal of grass clippings, leaves, and pine needles ONLY. 

Please be considerate of the service that is offered to Chocolay Township residents and only dispose of the proper materials.

Seasonal Load and Speed Restrictions
The Marquette County Road Commission will impose and enforce seasonal load and speed restrictions on all roads and streets under its jurisdiction beginning at 8:00 AM on Sunday, March 5, 2017.  Restrictions apply to all motorized vehicles and loads.  Normal legal loads are permitted on all roads designated as "All Season".

Weight restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling the Marquette County Road Commission at 486-4491, ext. 2.

Recycling Contamination
Starting December 12, 2016, the Marquette County Solid Waste Facility will being INSPECTING all RIGID loads of recycling.  There has been a significant increase in contamination of rigids (plastic, glass, and metal).  For a list of acceptable and non-acceptable items, click here.

The hauler will be responsible for contamination of material coming from residential recycling routes, so GAD will be inspecting the material that is in your rigid recycling, and if it does not fit the definition, the material will be left.

Garbage Tag Increase
Effective December 1st, a sheet of garbage tags will increase to $9.50 per sheet.

Purchasing Garbage Tags

One tag is required for each bag set out for collection. Cost is $9.50 for a card of five tags. Tags can be purchased at the following businesses:  Chocolay Township Office, Holiday Gas Station (Harvey), Cherry Creek Market (formerly Jack's IGA), Kassel's Korner, Krist Oil (Harvey), Marquette Community Federal Credit Union (Harvey), and Snyder Drug Store (Harvey)

Direct Hauling to County Landfill
Chocolay Township residents can haul items to the Marquette County Landfill by stopping at the Township to complete a Hauler's Agreement. A $12.00 monthly user fee will be charged along with a deposit ($40.00 per ton). Direct hauling can be a considerable savings to Chocolay residents. Call 249-1448 for more information. Credit or debit cards not accepted.

Metal Drop-Off at Marquette County Landfill
Residents can drop off metal items free at the Marquette County Landfill located on County Road 480. The Landfill is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Stop at the Landfill office for directions when you enter the Landfill area, they will direct you where to drop it off. No other material can be attached to the metal (example: tires or seat on a bicycle).
