Summer Hours
The Chocolay Township Office will begin Summer hours on Tuesday May 30, 2017. 

Office hours will be 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday thru Friday. 

Summer hours run from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Seasonal Load and Speed Restrictions
Per Marquette County Road Commission:

Seasonal weight restrictions will be lifted on all roads under under the jurisdiction of the Marquette County Road Commission beginning 7:00 a.m., Tuesday May 16, 2017. 

Until Tuesday, May 30, 2017, only normal legal loads will be allowed.  After this date overloads will be allowed by permits only.

On Call / Part Time Treasurer Assistant

The Charter Township of Chocolay is seeing a Treasurer Assistant to assist with customer service and general office duties in the absence of the Deputy Treasurer.  The Treasurer Assistant will respond to phone and walk-in customers, accept payments for Township services, balance receipts, and prepare deposits and reports.  This position will be scheduled only as needed no regular hours.  Rate of pay is $9.65 per hour.

Seasonal Maintenance Worker Position

Chocolay Township Department of Public Works is accepting applications for a temporary maintenance summer worker. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to, mowing grass, chipping brush, painting, and general cleaning.  The candidate must be a diligent worker with the ability to complete tasks with attention to detail, and little or no supervision. 

Minimum requirements for this position are possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, 18 years or older, and possession of a valid driver's license.  Rate of pay is $10.50 per hour.

Wood Chips Available
Wood chips are now available at the Township Office free of charge.  They are available on a first come, first serve basis - haul your own.

Gentz's Compost Site
Gentz's compost site, located at 264 Little Lake Road, is now open for the season.  As a convenience to the residents of Chocolay Township, they provide a site at NO COST for disposal of grass clippings, leaves, and pine needles ONLY. 

Please be considerate of the service that is offered to Chocolay Township residents and only dispose of the proper materials.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Township office at 249-1448.

Seasonal Load and Speed Restrictions
The Marquette County Road Commission will impose and enforce seasonal load and speed restrictions on all roads and streets under its jurisdiction beginning at 8:00 AM on Sunday, March 5, 2017.  Restrictions apply to all motorized vehicles and loads.  Normal legal loads are permitted on all roads designated as "All Season".

Weight restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling the Marquette County Road Commission at 486-4491, ext. 2.

If you have experienced significant coastal erosion or property damage due to high lake levels/storm events please consider adding site information and photos to the NEW Coastal Reporting Tool (see link below) developed by the Superior Watershed Partnership. The SWP will use site information to prioritize potential projects, pursue potential grant funding and, when possible, provide assistance through the Great Lakes Conservation Corps: http://superiorwatersheds.org/report-erosion-hazard

Recycling Contamination
Starting December 12, 2016, the Marquette County Solid Waste Facility will being INSPECTING all RIGID loads of recycling.  There has been a significant increase in contamination of rigids (plastic, glass, and metal).  For a list of acceptable and non-acceptable items, click here.

The hauler will be responsible for contamination of material coming from residential recycling routes, so GAD will be inspecting the material that is in your rigid recycling, and if it does not fit the definition, the material will be left.

21st Century Infrastructure Commission Report Released
The Michigan 21st Century Infrastructure report has been released. This report details the work the Michigan committee has completed over the last eight months. The report outlines the direction for water, transportation, energy, and communication for Michigan for the next 30 to 50 years. Much of this material will be part of the future Township planning process. The report can be found at 21st Century Infrastructure Commission.
